DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb, 0.01–0.35 m tall, partially pubescent or rarely wholly glabrous, erect or ascending from rooting and branching base, with short axillary shoots from all nodes below inflorescence. Stems 2-lined, red, eglandular; internodes 5–30 mm, exceeding leaves. Leaves sessile, not glaucous, puberulous to shortly pubescent or rarely glabrous; lamina (main stem) 7–15(–20) × 1–5 mm, lanceolate to oblong-linear, apex apiculate to obtuse, margin recurved to revolute, base rounded to parallel, with or without 1–3 pairs of lateral veins from lower half of midrib; laminar glands pale, scattered, without apical black gland; intramarginal glands pale, spaced; leaves on axillary shoots smaller, linear. Inflorescence 3–20(–33)-flowered, from 1–6 nodes, narrowly pyramidal to cylindric or interrupted-spicate, nodes usually spaced with dense nodal clusters, 10–120 mm long, with lateral cymules 1–4-flowered, without or occasionally with up to 4 flowering branches below; bracts foliar, entire or glandular-ciliate to fimbriate, bracteoles glandular-fimbriate. Flowers 10–25 mm in diam., petals erect after flowering; buds ellipsoid. Sepals equal, free, not imbricate, 4–7 × 1–3 mm, lanceolate to oblong or ovate, acute to rounded; veins 3–5, not or slightly prominent; margin with flat-topped black glands on cilia or fimbriae; laminar glands linear to shortly striiform. Petals pale? yellow, tinged red or red-veined, 7–16 × 4–6 mm, c. 2 × sepals, obovate to elliptic-obovate; marginal glands black, distal to apical, sessile or on short cilia, globose or rarely absent; laminar glands punctiform to shortly striiform. Stamens c. 40, longest 7–9 mm, filaments yellow, not? red-tinged. Ovary c. 3 × 2 mm, ovoid; styles 5-6 mm, c. 2 × ovary. Capsule 6–9 × 4–6 mm, ovoid. Seeds c. 2 mm long, reddish-brown; testa papillose.
