DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb, 0.35–1.1 m tall, with green parts hirsute (stem very rarely glabrescent, in var. calvescens), erect from creeping and rooting base, unbranched or branching from some or all nodes below inflorescence. Stems 2-lined becoming terete, with occasional reddish glands not prominent; internodes 15–60 mm, usually exceeding leaves. Leaves sessile to 1–2 mm petiolate, not glaucous, chartaceous, with short hairs appressed above, mostly spreading below but longer and sometimes appressed along veins; lamina 20–60 × 5–25 mm, lanceolate or elliptic to oblong, apex rounded, margin plane to recurved, base cuneate, with 3 pairs of lateral veins from lower ⅓–½ of midrib; laminar glands small, ± dense, without apical black gland; intramarginal glands pale, spaced. Inflorescence ∞-flowered, from 4–7 nodes, narrowly cylindric to broadly pyramidal, dense to ± lax, c. 30–180 mm long, with lateral cymules (1)3–11-flowered, without or with up to 4 pairs of flowering branches below; bracts ovate-triangular to linear, entire, bracteoles linear, glandular-ciliate to - fimbriate. Flowers c. 15 mm in diam., petals erect after flowering; buds ellipsoid. Sepals unequal to subequal, free or very shortly united, not imbricate, 2.5–4 × 0.5–1.1 mm, narrowly oblong or narrowly lanceolate to linear, subacute; veins 3, not prominent; margin with obconic black glands, sessile or on cilia; laminar glands elongate-punctiform, few. Petals pale yellow or rarely lemon, not red-tinged, 7–10 × 2.5–3 mm, c. 2.5 × sepals, narrowly oblong; marginal gland(s) black, 1–5, apical, sessile to subsessile, globose; laminar glands punctiform to shortly striiform. Stamens 25–35, longest 8–11 mm, filaments yellow or rarely lemon, not red-tinged; anthers yellow or rarely orange. Ovary 2 × 1–1.5 mm, ovoid; styles 4.5–5 mm, 2.2–2.5 × ovary. Capsule 5–7 ×3.5–4 mm, ovoid. Seeds reddish-brown, c. 1 mm long; testa papillose.
