DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Differs from var. elongatum as follows: Axillary leaves with occasional black laminar glands, ± apiculate. Sepals broadly to narrowly elliptic or narrowly oblong, entire to minutely denticulate, usually all regularly gland-fringed. Petals sometimes with a few black laminar glands.
Perennial herb, 0.36–0.6 m tall, glabrous, erect, not branching below inflorescence, with sterile shoots ascending to spreading. Stems not glaucous, with sparse amber glandular dots towards base of node, not prominent; internodes 15–40 mm shorter than leaves. Leaves sessile to subsessile, not glaucous; lamina (main stem) 12–22 × 1–2 mm, linear, apex obtuse to apiculate, margin plane to usually revolute, base cuneate, 1-veined or with 1–2 pairs of lateral branches, with laminar glands pale, small and large, sometimes also black, subapical or intramarginal, marginal glands dense to spaced, pale; lamina (axillary and sterile shoots) smaller, narrower, apex acute to apiculate or subuncinate. Inflorescence ∞-flowered, from 5–10 nodes, narrowly to rather broadly cylindric, rather lax, 60-120 mm long, with lateral cymules 1–3-flowered, without flowering branches below; bracts and bracteoles triangular-ovate to triangular-lanceolate, entire. Flowers c. 22 mm in diam., with petals ascending after flowering; buds broadly ellipsoid. Sepals unequal, basally united, imbricate or not, 2–4 × 1–1.5 mm, ovate-oblong to oblong, obtuse to subacute; veins 3–5; margin wholly or distally with regular, sessile to subsessile, globose to ellipsoid black glands; laminar glands pale, linear and sometimes punctiform. Petals yellow, not? red-tinged, (10–)13–18 × 3–9 mm, 2.5–5 × sepals, obovate, unguiculate, rounded, distally shortly black-glandular-ciliate; laminar glands pale and sometimes black, elongate-punctiform to shortly striiform. Stamens c. 40–50, longest 6–8 mm; filaments not red-tinged. Ovary not seen; styles 3–3.5 mm. Capsule (immature) ovoid-pyramidal, rostrate. Seeds not seen.
