DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb 0.1–0.35(–0.5) m tall, erect or ascending from creeping, rooting and branching base, with stems numerous (± densely caespitose), sometimes branched above. Stems obscurely 2-lined (or very rarely partly 4-lined) to terete, eglandular or very rarely with a few small scattered reddish glands; internodes 10–30(–40) mm, shorter to longer than leaves. Leaves sessile; lamina (10–)20–30(–40) × (7–)10–27 mm, elliptic or oblong-ovate to ovate, glaucescent beneath, chartaceous; apex obtuse to rounded or retuse, margin entire, base rounded to cordate-amplexicaul (uppermost); veins 3–4 pairs of main laterals from lower third to quarter of midrib or near-basal to basal, tertiary reticulation dense, visible on both sides; laminar glands black, punctiform, sparse or rarely absent, more rarely interspersed with smaller pale dots (not seen) or rarely wholly pale; intramarginal glands black, more rarely interspersed with smaller pale ones. Inflorescence 1–5(–7)-flowered, from 1–2 nodes, rather lax to dense, unbranched below; pedicels (2–)3–4.5 mm (terminal rarely to 7 mm in fruit); bracts and bracteoles reduced-foliar to linear-lanceolate. Flowers c. 15–25(–30) mm in diam., stellate; buds ellipsoid, obtuse to subacute. Sepals 5, unequal, (5–)6–8.5 × 1.2–3.4 mm, oblong-ovate or oblong to broadly elliptic or lanceolate, rounded to subacute, entire; veins 3–5(7), branched and reticulating; laminar glands black, punctiform (few to numerous) and sometimes linear; marginal glands black to mostly pale, ± dense to sparse or very rarely absent. Petals (4)5(6–9), golden yellow?, not tinged red, 8–15 × 4–7 mm, 2 × sepals, oblong or oblanceolate to elliptic, rounded, entire; laminar glands black, striiform to punctiform, black or rarely pale; marginal glands absent. Stamens c. 30–60, ‘3’-fascicled, longest mostly 8–13 mm, c. 0.8–1 × petals; anther gland black. Ovary 2.8–6 × 2–3 mm, ellipsoid or broadly ovoid (to cylindric?); styles 3(4), free, diverging, (2.5–)3–6 mm, 1.1–1.3(–1.7) ×ovary; stigmas narrow. Capsule 5–9 × 2.5–5 mm, (0.9–)1.1–1.3(–1.7) × sepals, broadly ovoid-conic to ellipsoid-cylindric. Seeds dark brown, 1–1.1 mm; testa scalariform-reticulate?
