DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb 0.1–0.6 m tall, erect to ascending, shortly creeping and rooting, with stems few to several (c. 6), unbranched below inflorescence. Stems narrowly 4-lined above or wholly narrowly 2-lined to sometimes terete, occasionally with small black glands on lines; internodes 20-80 mm, exceeding leaves. Leaves sessile, sometimes amplexicaul; lamina (10–)15–55 × (8–)12–27 mm, ovate or ovate-oblong to subcircular, slightly paler beneath, rather thickly to thinly chartaceous; apex rounded, margin entire, plane to rarely subundulate, base truncate to cordate; venation: 3 pairs of main veins from lower 2/5 of midrib, branching, with dense tertiary reticulation; laminar glands pale and/or black, rather sparse, or often absent; marginal glands black, irregular to spaced. Inflorescence 4–c. 60-flowered, from 2–3 nodes, the uppermost internode short, without flowering branches below, the whole obconic; pedicels 3–6 mm; lower bracts in 2-noded inflorescence foliar, otherwise bracts lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, black-glandular-ciliate or very rarely eglandular-denticulate (fide Boissier, 1867). Flowers 15–20 mm in diam., stellate; buds ellipsoid, rounded. Sepals 5, equal, 5–6 × 1.5–3 mm, narrowly lanceolate or narrowly elliptic to narrowly oblong, acute, glandular-denticulate to - fimbriate or rarely eglandular-denticulate to entire, erect in fruit; veins: 3(5), unbranched or branching outwardly, scarcely prominent; laminar glands all black, (elongate-)punctiform; marginal glands black, sessile or usually on cilia or fimbriae. Petals 5, bright yellow, not tinged red, 10–13 × c. 4 mm, c. 2 × sepals, oblanceolate, rounded; laminar glands black, punctiform (rarely shortly striiform), dispersed; marginal glands black, distal, on cilia. Stamens 65–80, longest 7–10 mm, 0.7–0.8 × petals. Ovary 2.5–3 × 2–2.5 mm, ovoid to ovoid-cylindric; styles 4.5–6 mm, 2–2.5 × ovary. Capsule 6-10 × 4-6 mm, ovoid to cylindric; valves with glands pale, prominent, round to elongate-ovoid vesicles, the dense contents sometimes appearing blackish. Seeds stramineous, 1mm; testa ribbed-foveolate.
