DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb 0.15–0.35 m tall, wholly erect or with ascending base from taproot, with stems up to c. 8, caespitose, usually unbranched below inflorescence. Stems completely to rarely incompletely 2-lined, black gland-dotted, glabrous or rarely scabrid-puberulous, not glaucous; internodes 5–12 mm, shorter than to exceeding leaves. Leaves sessile to (lower) 0.5 mm petiolate, erect to ascending, green?; lamina 8–19 × 2.5–5 mm, narrowly oblong to oblanceolate, concolorous, chartaceous, minutely papillose to puberulous; apex obtuse to rounded, margin plane to recurved, base rounded to broadly cuneate; venation: 2–3 pairs of main veins from lower half to ¾ of midrib, not apparently branching or reticulating; laminar glands pale, towards margin, dense and sometimes a few black; marginal glands black, subregular to irregular. Inflorescence 9–c. 55-flowered from 2–6 nodes, without flowering branches below, the whole subcorymbose to (usually) narrowly pyramidal or cylindric; pedicels up to 1mm, rather stout; bracts and bracteoles oblong to elliptic, margin subentire to black-glandular-ciliate. Flowers 18–22 mm in diam.; buds cylindrical-ellipsoid, subacute. Sepals equal, basally united, 3–4 × 1–1.2 mm, oblong, acute to obtuse or usually rounded, glandular-ciliate; veins 3, unbranched; laminar glands black, punctiform; marginal glands black. Petals golden? yellow, veined red, 9–11 × c. 4 mm, c. 3 × sepals, obovate-oblanceolate, rounded; laminar glands distally black, punctiform to elongate, proximally pale, ± elongate; marginal and submarginal glands black, regular. Stamens c. 25–30, longest 8–10mm, 0.8–0.85 × petals. Ovary c. 2.5 × 1.5 mm, narrowly pyramidal; styles 3, c. 4.5 mm. Capsule 7–8 × 4–5 mm, ovoid-pyramidal; valves with one pair dorsal vittae and lateral vesicles slightly elongate. Seeds not seen.
