Perennial herb 0.2–0.65 m tall, erect from shortly creeping and rooting base, usually branched above with branches ascending. Stems narrowly 4-lined at first (the interfoliar ones incomplete), soon 2-lined to terete, often turning vinous red below, with black gland-dots along lines or all over; internodes 20–60 mm, equalling or exceeding leaves. Leaves sessile or rarely to 0.5 mm petiolate; lamina 30–42(–52) × 8–22 mm, ovate-oblong to oblong or elliptic, paler beneath, ± thinly chartaceous; apex rounded or rarely obtuse or subretuse, margin plane, base rounded to subcordate; venation: 4–5 pairs of main laterals from lower two- to three-fifths of midrib, tertiary reticulation dense, more visible beneath; laminar glands mostly pale or up to 50% black, dense; intramarginal glands black, dense. Inflorescence (5–)13–61(–124)-flowered, from up to 4 nodes, with branches from up to 3 nodes below, the whole subcorymbiform to broadly pyramidal; pedicels 1–3.5 mm; bracts and bracteoles 1.5–6 mm long, lanceolate to subulate, entire or with 1–2 proximal denticles. Flowers 15–20 mm in diam., stellate; buds ellipsoid-subglobose, obtuse, not red-tinged. Sepals 5, subequal, free, (3–)3.6–4.6(–5.5) × 1–2 mm, lanceolate or ovate-elliptic to elliptic, acute to obtuse, entire; veins 5, outer branched and anastomosing; laminar glands all black or some pale, linear to punctiform; marginal glands absent. Petals 5, yellow, 6–11 × 2.5–5 mm, c. 2 × sepals, narrowly obovate to elliptic or rarely? ovate, rounded, inner margin distally glandular-denticulate; laminar glands almost all pale to almost all black, linear to punctiform; marginal glands absent. Stamens 37–62, ‘3’-fascicled, longest (4–)6.1–8.5(–10) mm, about equalling petals; anther gland black. Ovary 3–4 × 2.5–3 mm, ovoid-subglobose; styles 3, 3.5–5 mm, c. 1.2 × ovary; stigmas narrow to narrowly capitate. Capsule 3–7(–8) × 3–4.5 mm, ellipsoid-subglobose; valves longitudinally vittate. Seeds yellow-brown to orange-brown, 0.7–0.93 mm long; testa?
