DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb 0.5–0.9 m tall, erect, not creeping, sometimes rooting at base, branching at most nodes with branches ascending. Stems 2–4-lined and ancipitous at first, soon terete, not turning vinous red, with black glandular dots in two irregular infrafoliar lines; internodes 15–80 mm, usually shorter than leaves. Leaves sessile to 0.5 mm petiolate; lamina 15–42 × 3–9 mm, lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, glaucous beneath and sometimes above, chartaceous; apex obtuse to acute, margin recurved, base rounded to cuneate; venation: 3–4 pairs of main laterals from lower quarter to two-fifths of midrib, tertiary reticulation obscure; laminar glands all pale to all black, large, sometimes striiform, ± dense; intramarginal glands, black, rather sparse. Inflorescence numerous-flowered, from 3–4 nodes, dense, with branches from up to 6 nodes below, the whole subcorymbiform to broadly pyramidal; pedicels 2.5–8 mm; upper 1–2 leaf pairs ± bracteose, bracteoles 4–7 mm long, linear-lanceolate, glandular-denticulate basally. Flowers 15–20 mm in diam., stellate; buds ovoid, acute, not red-tinged. Sepals 5, subequal, free, 5–8 × 1–1.5 mm, lanceolate, acute, gland-tipped, entire or almost so distally, with prominent glands or glandular-denticulate proximally; veins 5, outer sometimes branching and anastomosing; laminar glands pale, linear; marginal glands black, terminal one sessile, basal ones prominent. Petals 5, yellow, 8–11(–12) × 2.5–4 mm, c. 1.3–1.6 × sepals, oblanceolate to oblong-oblanceolate, rounded?, partly denticulate; laminar glands pale, linear to striiform; marginal glands black, mostly prominent, rather dense. Stamens (35–)40–60, ‘3’-fascicled, longest 7–9 mm, c. 0.9 × petals, anther gland black. Ovary 2.5–3 × 1.5–2 mm, ovoid; styles 3, 5–6 mm, c. 2 × ovary, divergent; stigmas scarcely capitate. Capsule 5–8 × 2.5–3.5 mm, narrowly to rather broadly ovoid, longitudinally to slightly diagonally vittate, then vittae sometimes broad and slightly swollen. Seeds dark brown, c. 0.6 mm long; testa densely linear-reticulate.
