DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb 0.12–0.24 m tall, erect from decumbent to ascending base or (when small) wholly erect, with stems up to c. 25, caespitose, unbranched below inflorescence. Stems 2-lined, black-gland-dotted, glabrous, green; internodes (8–)10–16 mm, equalling or slightly shorter than leaves. Leaves sessile, spreading to erect, ± glaucous; lamina (7–)10–23 × (2–)4–10 mm, broadly elliptic or elliptic-oblong to narrowly oblong or rarely (when small) oblong-linear, paler beneath, chartaceous, glabrous, green; apex rounded to obtuse, margin plane, base rounded to broadly cuneate; venation: 3 pairs of main laterals from lower half of midrib, not obviously branching or with visible reticulation; laminar glands pale, rather dense, obscure and black, near apex and margin or all over; marginal glands black, regular. Inflorescence (1–)5–c. 50-flowered, from (1–)2–4 nodes, pyramidal to usually ± narrowly cylindric, without flowering branches below; pedicels 1–2 mm, glabrous; bracts and bracteoles narrowly lanceolate to linear, margin black-glandular-ciliate. Flowers 18–25 mm in diam.; buds ellipsoid, acute. Sepals equal, basally united, 3–5 × 1–1.5 mm, lanceolate to narrowly oblong, acute to rounded, glandular-ciliate; veins 3, unbranched or 5 with the outer pair branched; laminar glands black, punctiform or some striiform, in 2 or 4 rows; marginal glands black. Petals golden? yellow, veined red, 10–13 × 3–5 mm, c. 2.5–3.5 × sepals, obovate, rounded; laminar glands all black to mostly pale, punctiform to shortly striiform; marginal glands black, irregular or few. Stamens 30–40, longest 6–9 mm, 0.6– 0.75 × petals. Ovary 2–3 × 1–1.8 mm, narrowly ellipsoid; styles 5–6 mm, 2–2.5 × ovary. Capsule c. 7–10 × 3.5–4.5 mm, narrowly pyramidal-ovoid; valves not seen. Seeds not seen.
