DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb 0.12–0.22 m tall, erect from decumbent sometimes woody base, with up to c. 30 stems, caespitose, usually unbranched below inflorescence. Stems 2-lined to subterete, black-gland-dotted below or wholly, glabrous or rarely puberulous, green; internodes (5–)10–23 mm, usually exceeding leaves. Leaves sessile to 0.5 mm petiolate, suberect to erect, glaucous or green; lamina 5–12 ×1–4.5 mm, elliptic or narrowly oblong to oblong-linear or oblanceolate, concolorous, chartaceous, papillose to puberulous; apex rounded to subacute, margin plane to recurved, base rounded to cuneate; venation: 2–3 pairs of main laterals from lower third of midrib, not obviously branched or with visible reticulation; laminar glands pale, dense to few, small and black near apex and margin or more rarely all over; marginal glands black, subregular or absent. Inflorescence 1–c. 20-flowered, from 1-4 nodes, cylindric, without flowering branches below; pedicels 0.5– 3(–5.5) mm; bracts and bracteoles linear, margin black-glandular-ciliate. Flowers 11–18 mm in diam.; buds ellipsoid, subacute to rounded. Sepals equal, basally united, 2.5–3.5 × 0.7–1.5 mm, oblong to narrowly lanceolate, subacute or rarely acute to rounded, glandular-ciliate; veins 3–5, unbranched; laminar glands all black or some pale near base, punctiform; marginal glands black. Petals golden? yellow, sometimes veined red, 7–12 × 2.5–3 mm, 2.5–3 × sepals, oblong, rounded; laminar glands all black or some proximal pale, punctiform to shortly striiform; marginal glands absent or 1–2, black. Stamens 30–40, ‘3’-fascicled, fascicles free, longest 6.5–8 mm, c. 0.7–0.9 × petals. Ovary 1.5–2 × 0.8–1 mm, narrowly ellipsoid; styles c. 3 mm, 1.5– 2 × ovary. Capsule 7–9 × 4.5–5 mm, pyramidal-ovoid; valves with one pair dorsal vittae and interrupted to irregular lateral vittae and vesicles. Seeds not seen.
