DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb (somewhat woody at base) 0.1–0.8 m tall, erect to ascending, not rooting, with stems few, branching at base only. Stems narrowly 2-lined when young, soon terete,with few amber glands in inflorescence region; internodes 10–40 mm, longer to shorter than leaves. Leaves sessile, amplexicaul, spreading; lamina (8–)12–26 × 10–20 mm, glaucous beneath, chartaceous; middle leaves largest, ovate, apex rounded to obtuse, margin plane, entire, base cordate-amplexicaul; with 3 pairs of ascending basal or near-basal lateral veins, laminar glands pale, numerous, occasionally a few black, marginal glands numerous, dense, pale only; upper leaves smaller, triangular-ovate; lower leaves smaller, narrowly ovate to elliptic, margin amber- or (usually) black-glandular-dentate, with black-glandular-fimbriate auricles, early deciduous. Inflorescence ∞-flowered, broadly pyramidal to subcorymbiform, 30–80 mm long, with lateral cymules (1–)3–7-flowered; bracts and bracteoles narrowly oblong to triangular-linear, sparsely black-glandular-fimbriate. Flowers c. 20 mm in diam., with petals erect after flowering; buds ovoid, rounded. Sepals equal, ¼– ⅓ united, 3–4 × 1.5–2.5 mm, oblong or elliptic to obovate, rounded to obtuse; veins 3–5, unbranched, not prominent; laminar glands black, 2–4, linear or interrupted to scattered-punctiform, and sometimes a few large amber elongate-punctiform; margin with distal black glands, sessile or on denticles, to almost entire. Petals rather pale yellow, not tinged red, 8–14 × 3–4 mm, oblanceolate to elliptic, rounded, laminar glands numerous, black, all linear to mostly punctiform; margin distally black-glandular-ciliate. Stamens c. 60, longest 7-10 mm, 0.7–0.8 × petals. Capsule 6–8 × 4–5 mm, broadly ovoid, with large, obliquely elongate to globose vesicles. Seeds reddish-brown, c. 1 mm long; testa ribbed.
