DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb up to 0.8 m tall, glabrous, erect. Stem not glaucous or glandular; internodes 20–25 mm, exceeding leaves. Leaves sessile, not glaucous; lamina (main stem) 12–20 × 1.5–4.5 mm, very narrowly elliptic to linear; apex obtuse to acute, margin usually revolute, base cuneate; lamina (axillary and sterile shoots) subapiculate to rounded. Inflorescence from c. 8 nodes, narrowly cylindric, c. 16 mm long, with lateral cymules 3–7-flowered; bracts and bracteoles narrowly ovate to lanceolate. Flowers c. 20 mm in diam.; buds globose. Sepals unequal to equal, up to ⅓ united, 2–5 × 2 mm, oblong to broadly elliptic, obtuse to apiculate or acute, all regularly to irregularly gland-fringed or rarely one outer with eglandular margin. Petals (6–)9– 12(–16?) × 3–5 mm, 2–3(–4?) × sepals. Ovary ovoid; styles c. 4mm long, about equalling ovary. Capsule 6– 11 × 3–5 mm, ovoid to pyramidal. Seeds dark brown?, 1.5–2 mm long.
