Perennial herb, 0.05–0.3 m tall, glabrous, erect to ascending or divaricate from persistent, almost suffruticose woody branching base, not creeping or usually rooting, without or with some short axillary shoots. Stem 4-lined when young, soon terete, green or reddish, eglandular; internodes 7–25 mm, equalling or usually exceeding leaves. Leaves subsessile, thinly coriaceous, ± glaucous especially beneath, 5–20 × 2–10 mm, ovate or elliptic to lanceolate or narrowly oblong, apex rounded to rarely acute, margin plane to subrecurved, base rounded to broadly cuneate, with 2-3 pairs of ascending lateral veins; laminar glands pale, punctiform, dense, small; intramarginal glands pale, small, dense. Inflorescence 1–16-flowered, from 1–3 nodes, narrowly cylindric to subcorymbiform, dense to interrupted, 15–70 mm long, with lateral branches straight, ± narrowly ascending (cf. 16. theodori), with lateral cymules 1–3-flowered, without flowering branches below; bracts reduced-foliar, bracteoles narrowly oblong to linear, entire or with 1–2 marginal black glands. Flowers c. 15 mm in diam., petals erect after flowering; buds subglobose, rounded. Sepals unequal to subequal, up to ⅓ united, not or slightly imbricate, 3–4 × 1.5–2 mm, oblong to triangular-oblong, rounded to rarely acute; veins 5, not branching, scarcely prominent; margin wholly shortly and densely black-glandular-ciliate with glands obconic to ellipsoid or rarely almost entire; laminar glands pale, linear to striiform, not prominent. Petals pale to golden yellow, tinged red, 6–12 × 3–4 mm, 2 × sepals, elliptic to oblanceolate; marginal glands black, distal, small, on cilia; laminar glands pale, shortly striiform. Stamens c. 60, longest 8–9 mm; filaments yellow. Ovary c. 2.5 × 1 mm, ovoid; styles 5–6 mm, c. 2 × ovary. Capsule 7–10 × 5–7 mm, ovoid. Seeds dark red brown, 2 mm long; testa shortly papillose.
