DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Subshrub 0.2-1 m tall, erect, 1-stemmed, with branches ascending, lateral, numerous, becoming naked below. Stems reddish-brown, 4-lined and ancipitous when young, soon incompletely 4-lined to 2-lined, eventually terete, cortex exfoliating in strips; internodes 3-40 mm, equalling or exceeding leaves. Leaves sessile, spreading to suberect; lamina 2-10 x 0.7-1.5 mm, lanceolate or oblong or elliptic-oblong to linear or oblanceolate, plane or subrecurved to incurved, paler beneath or concolorous or slightly glaucous, chartaceous; apex obtuse to rounded, base cuneate to rounded or cordate-amplexicaul, not decurrent, free; vein 1, unbranched; laminar glands dense, not prominent. Inflorescence c. 30-200-flowered, dichasial/monochasial without acces- sory branches, with lateral branches from up to 8 nodes below, densely corymbiform (flat-topped), the whole narrowly cylindric to obconic; primary pedicels 0-5-1 mm long; bracts and bracteoles triangular-lanceolate to oblong or ovate. Flowers 2-4 mm in diam., stellate; buds ellipsoid-globose to globose, rounded. Sepals 0.7-2 x 0.3-1 mm, unequal, not imbricate, narrowly oblong to broadly elliptic-ovate, subacute to rounded; veins 3-5, becoming prominent or not; glands all linear or distally punctiform. Petals yellow to orange, 1.3-3.5 x 0.7-2 mm, 1.7-2.5 x sepals, oblong- elliptic to elliptic, apex inrolled (at least when dry); apiculus obsolete or absent; glands linear. Stamens 10-30, 3(-4?)-fascicled or irregular (?), longest 1.2-3 mm long, 0.7-0.9 x petals. Ovary 0.5-0.7 x 0.3 mm, ovoid; styles 3-4, 0.8-1.4 mm long, 1.5-2.2 x ovary, spreading; stigmas subcapitate to narrowly capitate. Capsule c. 2-3 x 2-3 mm, subglobose-trigonous to globose, equalling or exceeding sepals. Seeds c. 0.8 mm long; testa ribbed-scalariform.
