DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb 0.15–0.4(–0.6) m tall, erect from creeping to ascending, branching woody base, with stems several, caespitose, branched above with branches slender, spreading, or not branched below inflorescence. Stems narrowly 2-lined in inflorescence and terete below or wholly terete, eglandular; internodes 14–32 mm, slightly shorter to longer than leaves. Leaves sessile or lower up to 1 mm petiolate, spreading; lamina 20–30 × (10–)13–19 mm, ovate or oblong-ovate to elliptic, somewhat paler beneath, chartaceous; apex rounded, margin plane, base shallowly cordate to rounded, upper subamplexicaul; venation: 3–4(5) pairs of main laterals from lower fifth to two-fifths of midrib, tertiary reticulation dense, visible beneath; laminar glands black, punctiform, small, sparse to rather dense; intramarginal glands black, rather dense to spaced and then with smaller intervening submarginal amber or black ones. Inflorescence c. 3–25-flowered, from 1–5 nodes, lax or ± crowded, sometimes with 1–2 branches below, the whole broadly cylindric to subpyramidal; pedicels 2.5–4 (terminal to 6) mm; bracts and bracteoles reduced-foliaceous to linear. Flowers 18–25 mm in diam., stellate; buds broadly ovoid to ellipsoid, rounded. Sepals 5, subequal, 3–4.5 × 1.5–2 mm, oblong to broadly elliptic or rarely obovate, rounded to premorse, entire or apically eroded-denticulate; veins 5, branching and reticulating; laminar glands linear to striiform and sometimes punctiform, black; marginal or submarginal glands black, few and distal or none. Petals 5, yellow, tinged red, 9–125 × 5–6.5 mm, c. 3.3–4 × sepals, oblong to oblong-elliptic or obovate-oblong, rounded or with short apiculus; laminar glands black, linear or striiform to punctiform; marginal glands black, 1–2, distal or absent. Stamens c. 60–70, ‘3’-fascicled, longest 8–13 mm, c. 0.9 × petals; anther gland black. Ovary 3–4 × 2–2.5 mm, broadly ovoid; styles 3, free, divaricate-ascending, 4–6 mm, 1–1.7 × ovary; stigmas narrow. Capsule narrowly ovoid-conic. Seeds not seen.
