DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb (0.05–)0.1–0.3(–0.7) m tall, erect to ascending from decumbent, rooting and sometimes branching base, with stems solitary to densely caespitose, branching virgately or more widely at all upper nodes and sometimes almost to base. Stems obscurely 2-lined above, soon terete, eglandular; internodes (10–)20–45 mm, equalling to longer than leaves. Leaves sessile or up to 1 mm petiolate; lamina 8–40(–50) ×3–15(–20) mm, narrowly oblong or obovate-oblong to elliptic or obovate-elliptic or oblanceolate, paler beneath, membranaceous; apex rounded, margin plane, base cuneate or angustate into pseudopetiole; venation: 2(3) pairs of laterals from lower third to half of midrib; tertiary reticulation lax, obscure; laminar glands pale, punctiform, dense; intramarginal glands black, dense to irregular. Inflorescence 1–9(–c. 40)-flowered, from 1–2 nodes, sometimes with branches from up to 9 nodes below, branching monochasial after first dichotomy, the whole corymbiform to cylindric; pedicels 1–2 mm; bracts oblong to oblanceolate, bracteoles elliptic to oblong-linear. Flowers 8–13 mm in diam., concave; buds ellipsoid, rounded. Sepals 5, unequal, 2.5–3.2(–4) × 0.7–1 mm, elliptic to narrowly oblong, rounded to subacute, with scattered prominent marginal glands or glandular cilia or rarely entire; veins 5, branching and anastomosing; laminar glands usually only pale, rarely pale and black or only black, linear to punctiform; marginal glands black, intramarginal to marginal or on cilia. Petals 5, mid yellow, not tinged red, 5–7 × 2–3 mm, c. 2 × sepals, oblong-oblanceolate to narrowly oblong, rounded, usually with prominent glands; laminar glands pale or rarely pale and black, linear to punctiform; marginal glands black, sessile to prominent. Stamens 17–24, ‘3’-fascicled, longest 3.5–4.5 mm, 0.65–0.7 × petals; anther gland black. Ovary 2–2.5 × 1.4–2 mm, ovoid-subglobose; styles 3, free, divergent, 1–2.2 mm, 0.5–0.9 × ovary; stigmas narrow. Capsule 3.5–5.5 × 3–5 mm (l : b = 0.9–1.4), 1.4–2.5 × sepals, ovoid to subglobose. Seeds dark brown?; testa scalariform-foveolate.
